Syntax
Q: 'Recently, I was using my Mac and suddenly the Mac's Raid controller stopped recognizing the hard drive. I don't know what happened that the Raid controller is not recognizing drives. I'm unable to get a clue about the issue. All I know is that all my data on the drive is useful and I'm currently working on the data. The goal of this article is to show you how a modern Hard Disk Drive or HDD is built. What are its main parts, how they look and what are these parts names and abbreviations. As an example we are going to disassemble 3.5' SATA drive.
Except what is weird, according to Disk Management, it is my primary SSD (the disk that I have windows installed on) in the 1st hard drive bay that is having problems. All of my user data (music, pictures, docs) are on my secondary HDD in the second drive bay of the laptop. One source states that the DR means Disk, Removable and the person had had problems with a thumb drive. Thinking that it might refer to any USB devices, such as printers and speakers, etc. The hard drive is blank- no data/partitions. Regardless of what's done with the drive, this shouldn't impact the ability of the Windows installation disc to detect the hardware- if the disk is.
Description
The Add-VMHardDiskDrive cmdlet adds a hard disk drive to a virtual machine.
Examples
Example 1
Creates a virtual hard disk using file D:VHDsdisk1.vhdx on virtual machine Test.
Example 2
Adds a virtual hard disk to SCSI controller number 0 on virtual machine Test.
Example 3
This example gets a SCSI controller on a virtual machine named Test and then adds physical disk 2 to that controller.
Example 4
This example gets physical disk 2 and then adds it to a virtual machine named Test.

Default value: | None |
Accept pipeline input: | False |
Accept wildcard characters: | False |
Specifies the type of the controller to which the hard disk drive is to be added. If not specified, IDE is attempted first. If the IDE controller port at the specified number and location is already connected to a drive, then it will try to create one on the SCSI controller specified by ControllerNumber.Allowed values are IDE and SCSI.
